Our Work
How We Do It
The BIGEE team works with a network partners including: universities, business service intermediaries, incubators and accelerators.
The DBJ, through BIGEE, offers grant funding to innovation Jamaican Businesses from Start-ups to medium-sized businesses. Our grants portfolio includes, IGNITE, for start-up and small businesses, access up to J$7 million through two windows (Ideation and Commercialization) PATENT, to support inventors file patent application in multiple jurisdictions; INNOVATION GRANT FUND, for medium-sized companies with innovative products and services; and the JAMAICA BUSINESS FUND, supports two types of groups in the “cluster” model – horizontal business alliances and vertical business alliances (anchor-led). The BIGEE programme is focussed on ensuring that our entrepreneurs and business operators are provided with the necessary tools and knowledge that will enable them to grow and scale their businesses. This is done through an effective relationship with business support enablers – Incubators, Accelerators, Business Service Intermediaries (BSIs) Business Development Organisations (BDOs) and Business Consultants. We support them through funding, training and workshops; sharing of international best practices through conferences and networking. This group of stakeholders are critical partners to the programme. Equity financing is focussed on helping innovative start-ups, small and medium-sized companies with ‘patient capital’ to grow and scale their businesses into new markets, be it locally or internationally. Equity financing is more than offering money, its added value includes advice, mentorship, networking. Our Equity Financing portfolio covers Angel Investing – the DBJ Angel Fund and the VC Fund.
