Since 2013, the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) through the Jamaica Venture Capital Programme (JVCapital) and in collaboration with its partner, the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ), have been hosting the annual National Business Model Competition (NBMC), an initiative that supports and encourage student entrepreneurship on the campuses of our local universities. The NBMC receives strong support from Jamaica’s investment and business community through sponsorship, provision of coaches, mentors and judges at the semi-finals and finals. In the first couple years, three universities (University of the West Indies – UWI, University of Technology, Jamaica – UTECH, and Northern Caribbean University – NCU, signed on to the initiative. In 2015, Edna Manley College of the Visual & Performing Arts (EMC) came on board and in 2020 and 2021, the College of Agriculture, Science & Education and University of the Commonwealth Caribbean, respectively, signed on to the programme. There are now six (6) universities participating in the competition
